Karen Alexander

Karen Alexander is an independent film and moving image curator, writer, and researcher. She is currently the 3D Pathway Leader on BA Fine Art at Central Saint Martins and a consultant with Cinema Rediscovered in Bristol. Alexander has previously taught at the Royal College of Art, working with students across disciplines and media in arts and culture. Her main research areas include black women and representation, national identity, and collective memory.

Alexander's notable curatorial projects encompass Curating Conversations (2014 & 2015), Black Atlantic Cinema Club (Autograph, Watershed 2016), and exhibitions such as Whip It Good: Spinning From History's Filthy Mind (Autograph, 2015) and Dream Time: We All have Stories (Nuit Blanche, Toronto 2018). In 2017, she co-founded the commissioning platform Philomela's Chorus. Alexander has contributed to several books on film and worked at the British Film Institute from 1998 to 2006, where she was responsible for the strategic marketing of BFI Distribution and Archive cinema releases.
