The Inferno Unseen: Rollo Smallcombe performing live at Palazzo Grassi, Venice, 2018

Fashion in Film Festival was founded in 2005 at the Horse Hospital by costume designer and archivist Roger K. Burton and curators Marketa Uhlirova and Christel Tsilibaris.

Exploring the multifaceted relationship between fashion, art and cinema, we seek to illuminate how the screen cultures, in their many forms, have represented, interpreted, and shaped fashion – as an idea, cultural force and industry.

Through our curated seasons and collaborations, we foster dialogue between different creative disciplines and sectors, encouraging new perspectives on fashion and cinema. We promote artistic experimentation, rediscover archival works, offer a platform for critical engagement with fashion and costume design in the moving image and showcase how they interact with cinema style, storytelling and wider culture.

Our focus is on presenting unseen and rarely-screened films as well as re-positioning celebrated works in novel contexts. We work closely with international archives, curators, filmmakers and artists to that end. Our projects engage with industry, academia and the general public, seeking to generate fresh ways of thinking that influence creative practice, inspire new forms of expression, and encourage the preservation of our cultural heritage.
